#22 Audio Books

If only I had an MP3 Player I would have probably found this exercise so much more exciting.

I can see how other people would love this though. Audio Books are literally an online library. No traffic, no parking, no loud kids running around and no fines.

Pity these people never get to visit the lovely library staff though.

#21 Podcasts, Smodcasts!

This is another application that is really for me.

I quite enjoy being able to get information and entertainment in an audio format. Especially for those of us that feel like we don't have much time, listening is something we can do while we work on other things, whereas reading needs a lot more of our attention.

I can see this technology being something that adapts and stays popular for a long time.

As for it's use in the library I can see it being used less for the public and maybe more in a staff training capacity as podcasting author talks etc would involve a lot of extra paperwork!

#20 You too can Youtube

Well in my search of youtube I found a vampire librarian, a super-librarian, a gorilla librarian, a ninja librarian, a baby librarian, a comedy librarian a singing librarian and of course a sexy librarian, but I choose not to watch that clip.

Just like a lot of other website there is a lot of junk to go through before you get to anything decent. I mean if I wanted to watch 5 minutes of a baby pushing a trolley around I could just attend storytime. It is fun when you find something worthwhile.

I found a clip and god do I wish I could act like this librarian, she reminds me of my high school librarian but with better hair.

#18 Web-based Apps

I can really see where Zoho Writer comes in handy. At first it is a bit hard to get used to as it is not exactly like Word, but I think that the templates make up for a lot of that. As a library service we could even use those templates to create standard forms, letters and cards. I made this document really quickly from a template provided in Zoho

#19 Discovering Web 2.0 tools

I choose to look at http://www.picnik.com/ for this exercise.

It is a photo editing site. The top photo, although cute isn't exactly art. You can see the difference between that one and the second one

There are a lot of effects you can do on this site like sepia, black and white, negative, text, borders and colour change. You can even make your teeth whiter or remove blemishes. I only tried a few butI have included some of the results and they did not take long at all.

Great tool for scrapbookers!

#16 So what's in a Wiki

Book review wikis are a great way to have a book club that anyone can join in on.

I hate reading book blurbs (which are sometime better written that the books) sometimes they just wreck the story for me, plus I need the book jacket to read them. I really enjoyed reading peoples reviews.

Suject guide wikis look more user friendly than a catalogue. Especially for people who are used to google and internet searching. I think that they would be really beneficial for a separate kids subject wiki

#15 On Library 2.0 & Web 2.0

Where do I see libraries of the future going?

Only where the customers want them to. I can't disagree with anyones perspective on the matter because I don't work in their library with their customers.

More and more customers just want to use the libarary from home so in the future will we even see them or will we have virtual customers!

#14 Getting not-so-technical with Technorati

Technorati makes more sense to me than a lot of other on-line applications. I still can't really understand who would use the Flickr mashups, but Technorati seems like a logic tool. How else are people supposed to find all of these blogs?

This of course doesn't mean all of the blogs make sense!

#7 Blog About Technology

I love to use technology to catch up with old school friends on the net.

I am registered with facebook and it has helped me find so many people that I haven't caught up with in a while. You can join groups like your high school, primary school or things that interest you like the Jim Henson appreciation society. It only takes one person to start a group and anyone can join it. People can't see your profile unless you invite them to be your friend so you feel like you have some control.

There are lots of other applications on facebook but joining groups is my favourite

#6 More Flickr Fun

I love making trading cards. This is definatley a cute way of creating a small profile for people to view.
I don't like the other mashups as much, but I'm sure that they would appeal to someone.

#5 Play Week

Play Week has been great fun. I made my version of Harry Potters BFF Hermione at http://elouai.com/chibi/harrypotter/icons.php

My niece would love this one. The My little pony generator on http://www.jwebgen.com/
The first pony is the girl and the second is the boy. I was too scared to let them breed, they don't look like a good match
I tried lots of other generators as well like German name generator, you can call me Margret Finke and Random Fortune Generator which has pearls of wisdom such as
Do you realize how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?
I even made a picture for my profile on Doppleme. Some of the other generators like Reflection Generator and Website Ribbon Generator are probably more practical but this is PLAY WEEK!!!!

Exercise #4 RSS Feeds

This exercise is something that I could spend all day on.

My Favourite feed is Dictionary.com word of the day. I don't know if I will start using any off these words in everyday conversation but they are quite funny

DOFF: to take off; to remove; also, to rid oneself of

MENDACIOUS: untruthful; also, untrue.

I think that this is a great service for anyone like me who hates scrolling through 10,000 hits in google just to browse through a few sites that interest me.
